This interactive presentation will address a growing national concern — that many schools identified for improvement under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) are failing to meet Adequate Yearly Progress due to the "subgroup" of students with disabilities. How can state policymakers, leaders of state and local organizations, and parent groups help to leverage the power of two federal statutes, NCLB and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), to improve outcomes for all students — especially those most at risk of being left behind in our society?

Kristin Myers Reedy, Director, and Vicki Hornus, Program Associate, from WestEd's Northeast Regional Resource Center (NERRC), will discuss how state and local leaders can leverage both NCLB and IDEA to make a difference in what happens in schools and ensure all children succeed.

This online event will draw from the workshops and discussions at NERRC's September 2005 NCLB/IDEA Invitational State Leadership Forum for general and special education leaders from the northeastern states.

Questions that will be addressed during this event include:
  • Who are the kids?
  • Where are they and what do they need to improve achievement?
  • How should we analyze state and local data to target resources to improve results?
  • What works to improve student achievement?
  • Where and what are the resources that can help improve achievement for all students?
