Adolescent Literacy in the Content Areas   
This Knowledge Loom Spotlight highlights promising practices for adolescent literacy in the content areas, with sections covering strategies for improving students’ literacy and learning, stories of practices in action, and resources related to culturally responsive instruction.

American Association of School Administrators   
This site offers a number of resources for educators, including "Issues and Insights," organized by topic area, and a section dedicated to resources and best practices for implementing the No Child Left Behind Act.

American Federation of Teachers - Redesigning Schools to Raise Achievement   
This section of the American Federation of Teachers' site contains a resource guide that presents ideas, information, and materials, including: profiles of selected districts, indicators of low performance; materials that can be used to help devise a school audit; procedures by which the school's instructional staff can make an informed choice among research-proven improvement programs and strategies; and profiles of several research-proven schoolwide improvement programs that school staffs may wish to consider.

Annenberg Institute for School Reform   
The Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University develops, shares and acts on knowledge that improves the conditions and outcomes of schooling in America, especially in urban communities and in schools serving disadvantaged children.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development   
The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) is an international, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that represents 160,000 educators from more than 135 countries and 66 affiliates. ASCD addresses all aspects of effective teaching and learning—such as professional development, educational leadership, and capacity building. ASCD offers broad, multiple perspectives—across all education professions—in reporting key policies and practices.

Best Evidence Encyclopedia (B.E.E.)   
The Best Evidence Encyclopedia is a free web site created by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Data-Driven Reform in Education (CDDRE) under funding from the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education. It is intended to give educators and researchers fair and useful information about the strength of the evidence supporting a variety of programs available for students in grades K-12.

Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement   
The Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvementis funded by the office of Elementary and Secondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education to assist schools and districts engaged in comprehensive school reform and improvement by providing information about research-based strategies and assistance. This Web site houses a variety of tools, guides, and links relating to school improvement.

Center for Research on Education, Diversity, and Excellence   
The Center for Research on Education, Diversity, and Excellence (CREDE) is a federally funded research and development program focused on improving the education of students whose ability to reach their potential is challenged by language or cultural barriers, race, geographic location, or poverty.

Center on Reinventing Public Education   
The Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE) studies major issues in education reform and governance in order to improve policy and decision-making in K-12 education. This Web site provides free online access to all of CRPE’s publications on governance and reform.

Comprehensive Centers Program   
This program awards discretionary grants to establish comprehensive technical assistance centers to help low-performing schools and districts close achievement gaps and meet the goals of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

Consortium of School Networking (CoSN)   
CoSN is a national non-profit organization and a premier voice in education technology leadership. Their mission is to advance the K-12 education community's capacity to effectively use technology to improve teaching and learning. Noteworthy resources found on their website include: Taking TCO to the Classroom; 3D (Data-Driven Decision Making); Accessible Technologies for All Students project; Cyber Security for the Digital District; and much more.

Doing What Works   
The "Doing What Works" site offers a user-friendly interface to quickly locate teaching practices that have been found effective by the U.S. Department of Education’s research arm, the Institute of Education Sciences, and similar organizations. In addition, it cites examples of possible ways, although not necessarily the only ways, this research may be used to help students reach their academic potential.

Education Trust   
The Education Trust works for the high academic achievement of all students at all levels, kindergarten through college, and forever closing the achievement gaps that separate low-income students and students of color from other youth.

George Lucas Educational Foundation Newsletters   
GLEF is a nonprofit organization that documents and disseminates stories about exemplary practices in K-12 public education. GLEF also publishes five weekly e-newsletters -- the original Edutopia News and four topic-specific publications: Assessment, Project-Based Learning, Social & Emotional Learning, and Technology Integration.

Improving School Board Decision-Making: The Data Connection   
This web site offers PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, hands-on training tools and other helpful materials for school board members who want to know more about how to use data to make good decisions for children in public schools. These materials may also be useful for trainers who work with school board members.

Learning Innovations at WestEd WestEd sponsored   
Learning Innovations at WestEd serves a range of clients, from individual schools to state education agencies, enhancing learning by using a variety of professional development, leadership, technical assistance, and evaluation strategies and products. Their Web site provides information on their products, services and projects related to: Assessment, Community Development, Evaluation, Leadership Development, Policy Studies & Analysis, School Reform, Special Needs & Full Inclusion, Teacher Professional Development, and Technology.

Lexile Framework for Reading   
The Lexile Framework for Reading is a measurement that matches readers to text. The Lexile Framework measures both reader ability and text difficulty on the same scale, called the Lexile scale. This approach allows educators to manage reading comprehension and encourage reader progress using Lexile measures and a broad range of Lexile products, tools and services. This Lexile web site includes a free Lexile book database and Lexile calculator.

National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators   
NAFEPA provides opportunities for federal program administrators across the nation to build a network that shares resources and ideas. NAFEPA members receive timely information about the implementation of No Child Left Behind and other federal programs.

National Clearinghouse for Comprehensive School Reform   
Understanding that practitioners need information on assessing needs, developing reform programs, and documenting the impact of reforms, the U.S. Department of Education established the National Clearinghouse for Comprehensive School Reform (NCCSR) in 1999 to disseminate information through a web site, reference and retrieval services, outreach, and publications. NCCSR is the central gateway to good information on comprehensive school reform (CSR). NCCSR is funded by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE). NCCSR is a partnership of The George Washington University, the Council for Basic Education, and the Institute for Educational Leadership.

National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition   
The National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition & Language Instruction Educational Programs (NCELA) collects, analyzes, synthesizes and disseminates information about language instruction educational programs for English language learners. Their Web site features current information regarding federal policies and major events, as well as databases, research, and additional links for a variety of users. NCELA is funded by USDE through the Office of English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement & Academic Achievement for LEP Students (OELA).

National Middle School Association   
The National Middle School Association (NMSA) is dedicated to improving the educational experiences of young adolescents by providing information, knowledge, and research publications specific to secondary schools. The NMSA site provides an extensive list of useful links to state, regional, provincial and international affiliate organizations.

National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs   
This National PTA Web site presents the National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs which were developed by the National PTA in cooperation with education and parent involvement professionals through the National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education (NCPIE).

New Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) Online System   
The updated ERIC online system provides the public with a centralized Web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic database of more than 1.1 million education-related citations going back to 1966. Also, there are now more than 107,000 full-text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004) that are available for free.

No Child Left Behind - ED.gov   
The U.S. Department of Education's web site provides information about the No Child Left Behind legislation including an overview, an A-Z index, and information on stronger accountability, more local freedom, proven methods, and choices for parents. This site also includes specific tabs for students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

Principals.org   
This National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) site provides middle and high school leaders with relevant news, research, and federal policy and legal resources. It also provides research-based, peer-tested resources and practical tools that strengthen the role of the principal as instructional leader, as well as example "breakthrough schools" to serve as inspiration.
