Abstract (written by WestEd)

Between 1998 and 2008, Hispanic enrollment increased from 4.5 to 10.4 million students and the percentage of Hispanics enrolled doubled from 11 percent to 22 percent.* This guide, although written in 2000, remains useful for educators in taking steps towards raising Hispanic students’ academic achievement and addressing the gaps between the graduation rates of Hispanic and non-Hispanic students. It is divided into four sections, each with a checklist to aid in implementation. The report includes many school-level examples.
