NCLB Topics

Adequate Yearly Progress

NCLB requires that states define measures for each school and district to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) toward the goal of all their students meeting state standards by the 2013-14 school year.

Assessment and Accountability

Schools must participate in state assessments as outlined in the NCLB Act.

English Language Learners

Several NCLB provisions seek to strengthen instruction and accountability for English Language Learners (ELLs).

IDEA and NCLB

NCLB requires that students with disabilities as a subgroup demonstrate adequate yearly progress toward the state's goals.

School/District Interventions

Each Title I district must identify for school improvement any Title I school that fails to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two consecutive years.

Scientifically Based Research

Throughout the NCLB Act, schools and districts are required to implement programs that are proven through scientifically based research.
